Weddings and Union Ceremonies

We are delighted when a couple makes the decision to commit their lives to one another through the ceremony of marriage. A Unitarian Universalist marriage ceremony may be conducted in any practical location, indoors or out.  There is no dogma or creed to be met.  The couple works with the Minister or the Officiant to develop a set of vows reflecting their values and commitment to one another.

Our minister is especially pleased to perform marriage and union ceremonies for members and friends of the Fellowship. For couples who are not connected to the Fellowship, the Fellowship appoints Officiants to be available to perform these ceremonies. Currently, in addition to our minister Rev. Sydney Morris, three lay members of the Fellowship are authorized as Officiants:  Jack Jobst, Barry Elizabeth Fink, and Bill Fink.

It is the couple’s responsibility to obtain a valid marriage license through the County Clerk’s office.  Please review information and instructions found on the State of Michigan’s website (www.michigan.gov).

We ask that an honorarium to be paid to the Minister or Officiant if neither partner in the couple is a member of our Fellowship.  Reimbursement for mileage or other expenses is also expected.
